- A total of 5,350 square meters of new terminal space and three new passenger boarding bridges will be built
- This expansion is part of ’VINCI Airports’ ongoing commitment to transform Belgrade Nikola Airport into a major air traffic hub for Southeast Europe
The company Belgrade Airport, operated by VINCI Airports, has initiated preparatory works to expand the terminal at Nikola Tesla Airport. This new phase of development, focused on the C side of the airport complex, will enhance passenger experience and operational capacity by adding three new gates, three passenger boarding bridges, and four completely new parking positions for medium-haul aircraft (Airbus A320 and Boeing 737).
The expanded terminal area, which will grow by 5,350 square meters, will be equipped with four new moving walkways, two on the departure level and two on the arrival level. These latest expansion works are part of Belgrade Airport’s ongoing efforts to modernize and increase the capacity of Nikola Tesla Airport, and also part of preparations for the expected rise in passenger and flight numbers during the upcoming EXPO 2027 event. The planned duration of the works is 13 months, after which the total number of gates at the airport will increase from 33 to 36.
“We continue to invest further in the development of Nikola Tesla Airport, operated by VINCI Airports, with the goal of positioning it as the major air traffic hub in Southeast Europe. We are pleased that these efforts are being recognized by both passengers and airlines, making us one of the most dynamic European airports in terms of traffic growth. During the past summer season, flights from Belgrade Airport reached a record 116 destinations, and in August, the airport recorded over one million passengers in a single month for the first time in its history,” said Chivoine Rem, CEO of Belgrade Airport, which operates Nikola Tesla Airport.
This latest terminal expansion follows several years of intensive airport development and investments of more than 366 million euros which significantly improved Belgrade Airport infrastructure. Today, the airport operates a fully reconstructed main runway, the first reconstruction in the past 60 years, as well as a completely new runway strategically placed between the main runway and the taxiway. Additionally, four rapid exit taxiways have been built to enable more efficient runway exit, along with four new taxiways to further enhance operational flexibility.
Also, since the start of the concession, 12 new gates and 11 aircraft parking positions have been built. To improve passenger efficiency and comfort, the number of parking spaces has been doubled, and 29 new check-in counters have been added, bringing the total to 90. Centralized security control has been introduced, along with nine new passport control counters and electronic passport scanning for departing and arriving passengers, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the Ministry of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure.
This new construction is also part of the ongoing ambitious environmental program of Belgrade Airport, with the use of low-carbon concrete, rainwater harvesting, and particular attention paid to the management of construction waste.
Belgrade Airport will continue to improve and develop Nikola Tesla airport to enhance the passenger experience and make every journey as pleasant as possible
