  • ACA Level 2 reflects continuation of airport commitment to VINCI environmental policy of reaching zero net emission across its network by 2050
  • Belgrade airport reduced 19.4% of CO2 in 2021 compared to 2019

Belgrade, March 20, 2023 - Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, operated by BELGRADE Airport a member company of VINCI Airports, reached level 2 of the Airport Council International (ACI) Airport Carbon Accreditation Program (ACA) recognizing the airport’ efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Level 2 accreditation illustrates the effectiveness of the environmental strategy developed at Belgrade Airport since it joined the VINCI airport network in 2018.

Belgrade airport met the requirements of ACA Level 1 in 2020 regarding mapping, and Level 2 reffers to reduction of carbon footprint and definition of plan for managing emissions through constant reduction of CO2 emissions from sources that are under the direct control of the airport.

Project of expansion, reconstruction and modernisation of Belgrade airport puts a strong focus on ecolocigal transition with significant investments made in the previous period such are: new 44MWh natural gas tri-generation heating plant which replaced the heating plant powered by heavy fuels, LED lighting introduction with over 6000 lamps making around 95% of total number of lamps, and buidling of a 1 MW solar plant. Effective management of emissions was confirmed by showing a reduction of CO2 by 19.4% in 2021 compared to 2019.

Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) is the only international program to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions specific to airports. This independent and voluntary program uses internationally recognized methodologies to assess an airport’s commitments towards a better managing its carbon emissions. Once authenticated, these commitments are then officially acknowledged through the award of one of the program’s 6 levels of certification: Mapping, Reduction, Optimization, Neutrality, Transformation and Transition.
